Compagnie de Beau Vallon Ltée is one of the main economic players in the Southeast of the island. We have considerably diversified our agricultural activities over the past fifteen years. From a core sugar-based operation, it has diversified through the cultivation of potatoes, onions, carrots, and palm heart, as well as the establishment of a nursery and deer breeding activities, amongst others.

We are currently looking for a pro-active Field Assistant with the capability to be autonomous as well as a good team player. The right candidate will assist in agricultural activities performed over 2,300 hectares.

Know-how:

Operational

  • Assist during the preparation of the plant production and harvest plan according to predefined objectives for agricultural activities
  • Assist in the planting, cultivating, and harvesting of Sugarcane and other agricultural production activities
  • Follow up of mechanical cane cutting
  • Responsible for taking measurements such as planting density, elongation and sugar cane diameter and density
  • Assist in land preparation and soil conservation activities
  • Participate in the development of new agricultural projects
  • Maintain the appropriate quality standards and specifications regarding the different productions
  • Ensure follow up of fertilisation activities
  • Monitor stock of fertilizer
  • Monitor plant disease and insects’ infestations and suggest recommendations
  • Effect regular rounds in the fields to ensure efficiency and efficacy of the team
  • Assist in various activities of field irrigation
  • Responsible for maintenance and construction of relevant infrastructures
  • Manage allocated vehicles

Administrative

  • Assist in the planning of both permanent and contractual employees
  • Manage attendance of permanent and contractual employees
  • Verify monthly payroll of employees
  • Prepare appropriate document for payment of contractors’ fees
  • Perform a monthly analysis of expenses and ensure they remain within budgeted figures
  • Ensure regular entry of technical sheet per plantation date
  • Monitor results of the activities through reports to ensure that targets are met on time

Knowledge:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Science / Crop Production or any relevant field
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a similar position
  • Proficiency with MS Office
  • Good understanding of agronomic practices
  • Valid driver’s licence
